VOLUNTEERS BUSY…COMMUNITY SUPPORT IS NEEDED

Our Disaster Action Team (DAT) has been busy responding to local disasters.  In the last 90 days alone, 90 families in Fresno , Madera , Merced and Mariposa Counties with a total of over 320 people have received emergency disaster relief assistance.

As winter sets in, demand for Red Cross services will be greater as higher heating bills place additional burdens on families already stretched to the limit financially.  Home fires often spike as temperatures plummet due to dangerous alternative heating practices.  These fire disasters create roadblocks of colossal proportions that play out emotionally and financially.  The Red Cross provides moral support, and desperately needed means for food, clothing, medicine, a safe haven and guidance to overcome these difficult times.

The DAT team is a group of dedicated volunteers from the community who have received specialized Red Cross training to respond to local families in need of assistance on a daily basis.  The majority of these emergency calls are residential dwelling or apartment fires leaving local families homeless and in need of emergency assistance. Our DAT volunteers respond 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

On average, each disaster assistance call in our community costs approximately $1,000, providing emergency shelter, food and clothing.  The assistance given to these families is FREE and only made possible by contributions from our local community to our Save-A-Family Relief Funds.

Donations to the Save-A-Family Relief Fund can be made online or by calling 559-455-1000.
