Local Youth Start First Red Cross Club at Clovis East

Leadership volunteers from Clovis East High School attended the Golden Guardian Statewide Disaster Drill in November 2006 and were inspired by the services rendered by Red Cross Volunteers, during a disaster.  The youth volunteers, with the help of Red Cross staff, founded the first Red Cross Youth Club for our community in February 2007.

The volunteers in the Clovis East Youth Club have completed training in fire safety and are currently raising funds to purchase household smoke alarms.  During the Fall of 2007 the Youth Club volunteers will visit elementary schools and teach fire safety to the students.  At the end of the presentation they will distribute one smoke alarm to the oldest child in each family.

The Youth Club has a leadership volunteer from the Fresno Madera Counties Chapter mentoring the Club’s activities and future fundraising plans.  The enthusiasm from this group of young adults has inspired other high school leadership programs in the FresnoMadera area and the chapter is looking forward to having several Youth Clubs on local high school campuses.

Those interested in supporting local Red Cross Youth Clubs can donate to the Save-A- Family campaign.  These donations will stay in our community so the Youth Clubs and  help our neighbors in a time of need.
